I am a member of the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild  which offers monthly classes and promotes the art of pressed flowers. I have attended conferences that bring people together from around the world, all sharing their love and knowledge of pressed flowers. Their website is https://wwpfg.com.

Linda Thompson - Pressed Flower Artist

After retiring from teaching high school English and Journalism, I turned my attention to the art of pressed flowers.  I live in the Door County countryside outside of Baileys Harbor, and most of my flowers come from fields and gardens on our ten acres. Pressing flowers takes a great deal of time and involves many steps.

1.  My preferred technique is to place flowers between sheets of heated desiccant paper under huge book presses. I often dye flowers and leaves to preserve color. I sometimes use a microwave press or a portable air grid press that sits in a hot car for several days.

2.  After a few days, each piece is transferred to blotting paper and goes back in the press.

3. I put a light Drytac sealant over it.  Most designs go into a hot press and then through a laminator

Despite the time it takes to create each piece, I know that every design is unique: No two are ever the same.

A pressed flower trout: Sometimes my husband got involved with projects. Through the Pressed Flower Guild, we made a trout using plant materials. Blue hydrangeas form the background.

A basket of camomiles: This is another Guild class we did together. The daisies are made from birch bark. He used orange peels for the butterfly. We have this hanging in a bedroom.
